About Heaton
Heaton’s history dates back to the 12th century when it became part of the Barony of Ellingham. The estate was later acquired by Henry Babington, who was knighted at Heaton Hall in 1617. By the 18th century, Heaton had developed into a coal mining area and has since become a popular residential area for university students.

Campaign to Save the Chillingham Road Planters
The Chillingham Road planters were a vital local asset. Cared for by residents and previous councillors, their pollinator perennials and colourful flowers provided a joyful bee and butterfly corridor loved by residents and visitors alike. Since May, they have been badly neglected and plans to remove them were announced. Join our campaign to urge the new councillors to rethink the decision to remove the planters.
