Dene and South Gosforth
Dene and South Gosforth have a rich history shaped by medieval settlement, coal mining, and the philanthropy of Lord Armstrong. Gosforth derives its name from the Old English Gese Ford, meaning “a ford where geese dwell.” South Gosforth developed as a rural settlement, with Haddrick’s Mill serving the area from the 16th century.
