Elswick
Elswick began as a small rural township before developing into a major industrial centre. Incorporated into Newcastle in 1835, it experienced rapid growth, expanding from around 300 residents to almost 60,000 by 1901. This dramatic transformation was fuelled by the area’s strong links to engineering, shipbuilding, and the wider growth of heavy industry.
