Benwell, Scotswood and Denton Burn are historic West End suburbs of Newcastle, known for their Roman heritage, coal mining legacy, and industrial importance. Once rural settlements, both transformed into major working-class communities during the industrial era. Scotswood Road’s industrial character was famously captured in the Geordie folk song, “The Blaydon Races.”
