Kenton litter pick retrieves old motor bike, a lawnmower, traffic cones and bins

A Community litter pick, involving local Kenton Bar-North Kenton residents, volunteers and ward councillors took place over the weekend at the shrubbed area next to the A1 Footbridge with the Kingston Park Tesco Store providing gloves and bags.

Dozens of bags of rubbish – including an old rusty motor-bike, a lawnmower, traffic cones, metal bins, three shopping trollies – have been removed from the green area next to Piper Court, North Kenton as part of the Keep Kenton Tidy campaign.

Coun Ged Bell, who organised the litter pick, said: ”Our thanks go to those residents who joined us to retrieve fly-tips and rubbish within two hours. Enough is enough. The Keep Kenton Tidy campaign gives us the chance to celebrate the good work that goes in our neighbourhood. The dozen residents who joined us have shown pride in their area.”

”The Council spend a huge amount of money on keeping Kenton and the city clean and tidy. It’s an ongoing problem. Council staff can’t be everywhere. We need to the help of more residents to tackle the scouge of litter,” added Coun Stephen Lambert.

There’s been an increase in the number of people who have started litter-picking sicne the pandememic.
