Chi was born in Wallsend and grew up on Hillsview Avenue in Kenton, where his early experiences shaped the values and beliefs that continue to guide him. After attending Kenton School, he studied Electrical Engineering in London and went on to build a successful international career, living and working in cities around the world while always remaining deeply connected to Newcastle.
Chi’s family history, including his mother’s experiences of poverty and his own return to Newcastle as a refugee during the Biafran Civil War, gave him a strong appreciation for peace, democracy and the opportunities created through education. Inspired by Newcastle’s industrial heritage, he became an engineer and later a passionate campaigner for causes he believed in. His experiences have shaped his commitment to creating opportunities for people from all backgrounds.
