Construction has officially begun on a major new sports and community facility at Blakelaw Park, marking the start of an exciting investment in the future of the local area.
The project was officially launched on 9 February, with Blakelaw Labour councillors joined by community councillor Dr Juna Sathian to celebrate the start of construction.
Speaking at the event, Dr Sathian said:
“As a local resident in Blakelaw, I can’t wait to see this development completed. This is such a massive investment for our community.”
Once complete, the new facility will provide first-class sporting and community amenities for local residents. The development includes two new small-sided 3G football turf pitches, the replacement of the existing full-size 3G pitch, and a new multi-use games area.
A modern two-storey pavilion will form the heart of the site, featuring new changing facilities, a community café, an education room, and a fitness suite with a dedicated studio.
The wider improvements will also include additional parking and a brand-new children’s play area, creating a welcoming destination for people of all ages.
The new sports hub will become the training home for both Blakelaw Juniors FC and Montagu & Fenham Juniors FC, helping to support grassroots football and encourage more people to take part in sport for years to come.
