Residents asked us to fight for their pharmacy. We listened, took action and kept up the pressure, and now Kenton has its pharmacy back.
When Boots closed its Kenton pharmacy in 2024, the community lost an important local healthcare service.
Residents were left having to travel further to collect prescriptions, get medicines advice and access other pharmacy services. This was particularly difficult for older and vulnerable residents and people who rely on regular prescriptions.
Kenton Labour councillors listened to residents and made restoring a local pharmacy a priority.
In December 2023, Cllr Stephen Lambert presented the residents’ petition to Newcastle City Council, making sure Kenton’s voice was heard and putting the issue firmly on the agenda.
The campaign did not stop with the petition. Kenton Labour councillors continued making the case for a replacement pharmacy and worked with Newcastle’s Health and Wellbeing Board and other partners to demonstrate the need for local provision.
The Result? Kenton has its pharmacy back.
The new pharmacy opened in August 2026, meaning residents can once again access prescriptions, medicines advice and other important healthcare services closer to home.
This campaign shows what strong local representation can achieve.
When residents raised concerns, Labour councillors listened. We organised a campaign, took residents’ voices into the council, worked with partners and kept pushing until a solution was delivered.
Kenton Labour will continue listening to residents, standing up for our community and campaigning for the local services people need.
