Newcastle Labour has congratulated Andy Burnham on becoming Prime Minister, pledging to work closely with the new Government to deliver on the priorities that matter most to people across the city.
Leader of Newcastle Labour Group, Cllr Ged Bell, welcomed the appointment and said Newcastle was ready to work in partnership with the Government to secure the investment, opportunities and change that local communities are calling for.
Cllr Ged Bell said:
“On behalf of everyone at Newcastle Labour, I want to congratulate Andy Burnham on becoming Prime Minister. I look forward to working with him and his Government to deliver on the priorities that matter most to the people of Newcastle.
“The people of Newcastle sent a clear message in May: they want change to come faster. I know Andy Burnham will deliver the change our city needs, rebuild confidence, and restore the trust of those who have lost faith in politics.”
Cllr Bell said Newcastle Labour would continue to focus on delivering for residents, working with the new Government to secure better opportunities, stronger public services and sustained investment in the city.
He added that Newcastle Labour remains committed to ensuring the voices of local people are heard in Westminster and that the city benefits from the Government’s programme for national renewal.
Newcastle Labour looks forward to working constructively with Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his Government to deliver lasting change for Newcastle and its communities.
