Newcastle Labour is delivering a flagship inclusive play space at City Stadium, strengthening Ouseburn’s role as a destination for sport, recreation and family activity.
The development is part of a £1.5 million programme approved by Newcastle City Council. The new facility will be designed for children with a wide range of needs and abilities, with sensory, audio, visual and natural play features considered.
Children, families and community organisations will be invited to influence the detailed design. Their involvement will help ensure the finished space is accessible, imaginative and suited to the surrounding community.
City Stadium is already an important location for sport and recreation. The new play area will strengthen its role as a place where people of different ages can exercise, socialise and enjoy time outdoors.
The scheme is one of four flagship projects in the £1.5 million programme approved by the council’s Labour-led Cabinet. It will consider sensory, audio, visual and natural play features so that children with different needs and abilities can enjoy the same public space together.
Labour will put children and families at the centre of the design process. The finished facility should complement the wider stadium site, be genuinely accessible and create a free local opportunity for play and exercise.
Cllr Alex Hay, Labour Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services said:
“This investment will make City Stadium an even better community destination. We want local children and families to help create a play area that is inclusive, imaginative and enjoyable for everyone.”
