Community comes together to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee
Residents came together at Blakelaw Park to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by taking part in a large community tree-planting event.
The planting formed part of the national Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, which encouraged communities across the country to create lasting environmental legacies in celebration of the Jubilee.
Blakelaw Park was chosen as one of the locations for the project, contributing to the North East Community Forest. Volunteers planted around 450 trees as part of the day’s activities, helping to increase biodiversity and improve the local environment.
The event also featured the planting of a ceremonial tree, with a commemorative plaque presented to Newcastle City Council by the Queen’s representative.
Councillor Linda Hobson said:
“It’s great that Blakelaw was chosen as a site to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This was a fantastic event that saw the community coming together to celebrate.”
The project forms part of wider efforts to create greener neighbourhoods and enhance local parks for future generations.
