Your Labour councillors have been working with residents, Barney & Jude’s and Cafe Z to put on a community Christmas for everyone in Sandyford.
The event started off with a Christmas decoration making workshop at Barney & Jude’s with volunteers from the church helping young people make decorations for their home and the community Christmas tree. Once they had all made enough decorations, Barny & Jude’s served hot chocolate for the children and mulled wine for the adults. I suspect this was so everyone would be warm enough to go out into the cold night and decorate the tree.
Franco at Cafe Z roasted chestnuts for everyone to share. This was a new, but welcome, experience for most of the children. Then children from St. Catherine’s RC Primary School accompanied by their head teacher led everyone in carol singing round the tree. The Christmas lights were turned on just as the rain started to fall but everyone continued to sing through the rain and had a great time.
One resident said to Councillor Hardman “It was great to see so many people come out on a cold night to share in the community spirit, I look forward to helping make it a bigger and even better event next year especially now we have the new resident’s association you have helped us set up.”
Councillors and the Sandyford resident’s association are planning a BBQ in the spring/summer contact Councillor Hardman for more details.
