Residents at Heaton Park Court are benefiting from warmer and more energy-efficient homes following the completion of a pioneering £4.1 million improvement programme.
Newcastle’s Labour-led Council worked with RE:GEN North East to upgrade all 72 flats in the high-rise building.
The project combined external wall insulation and new windows with the replacement of outdated gas appliances by modern, energy-efficient heating systems.
Heaton Park Court became the first Newcastle high-rise to combine these measures, reducing energy demand, improving the appearance of the building and helping residents manage their heating costs.
The scheme formed part of the Labour Council’s wider work to improve the quality and sustainability of Newcastle’s housing. Similar improvements were also planned for three tower blocks in Shieldfield and 32 homes in Walker.
Cllr Paula Maines, Labour Cabinet Member for Housing, welcomed the project as an important contribution towards a cleaner and greener Newcastle.
