Jesmond Pool set for greener and more efficient future

Newcastle Labour is supporting major energy-efficiency improvements at community-run Jesmond Pool, helping protect the facility while cutting energy use and carbon emissions.

The programme will provide solar panels and a new pool cover, helping the centre generate renewable energy, reduce wasted heat and lower its environmental impact. The work forms part of a wider £3.3 million programme for community buildings in Newcastle.

Jesmond Pool is a valued community facility used for swimming, exercise and local activities. Improving the building’s efficiency will help protect it for future generations while supporting Newcastle’s work to reduce carbon emissions.

The project is supported through the Government’s Swimming Pool Support Fund, with works expected to progress during 2025.

The solar panels and new pool cover form part of a £3.3 million programme for Newcastle community buildings, backed by government funding. Reducing heat loss and generating renewable electricity should ease running pressures on a facility that provides swimming, exercise and community activity for people of all ages.

Labour believes climate action should strengthen the services people rely on. This investment combines lower emissions with practical support for a valued community asset, and we will keep residents informed as the work progresses during 2025.

Cllr Juna Sathian, Labour Cabinet Member for Climate and Transport said:

“Jesmond Pool is much more than a place to swim; it is a community asset valued by people of all ages. This investment will help make the building greener, more efficient and better protected for the future.”
