Enough is Enough: No more Tory/Lib Dem cuts in Newcastle
Enough is Enough: No more Tory/Lib Dem cuts in Newcastle

Newcastle City Council is facing cuts of up to £90million over the next three years after a drastic reduction in the money it gets from central Government.

This will have a devastating impact on everybody living and working in our city.

Your Labour councillors are against these unfair cuts and are demanding a fairer deal, but the Tory/Lib Dem Coalition are forcing them on us by slashing the money we would usually get from Government.

The City Council’s budget of £266million is set to be cut by 40% by 2016, taking into account grant reductions and rising costs.

As usual the Tories are hitting the North East hardest. Newcastle’s cut in funding amounts to £144 per person, compared to just £25 for some council’s in the South.

Newcastle Council’s independent City Treasurer Paul Woods told the Journal newspaper “By 2018/19 our projection says there is nothing left for anything such as highway maintenance, sports, leisure, culture or economic development”.

There are things that the Council do now that they simply won’t have the money to do after the cuts are imposed. Jobs will be lost, services will go, buildings will be closed and costs will increase. Welcome to ToryBritain!

Labour Newcastle and Labour Parties up and down the country are campaigning for a better deal from Government. We know, because of our successful campaigns against the Pasty Tax and the Granny Tax, that public pressure can make a difference. The only chance we have of being successful is if we have your support.

Your Labour Councillors are out on the doorstep asking people to sign our petition. We want to send a clear message to George Osborne and his Lib Dem partners in government that ‘enough is enough’.
