Residents in Westerhope are now benefiting from the installation of Redeployable CCTV cameras. The cameras have been purchased in a joint venture across the wards within the Outer West area. These cameras are of a high quality and are Redeployable which means they can be moved around and across wards in the Outer West area to tackle issues such as ASB when needed. They allow a more targeted approach to crime prevention and community safety issues. The cameras have the benfit of being monitored and the images are recorded.
The camera sited on West Avenue, overlooking Westerhope Park, was sited after consultation between Westerhope and Denton Councillors, neighbourhood policing, fire and rescue and Safe Newcastle. The decision was based on reports of ASB on the site which was beginning to severely affect the residents of both Westerhope and Denton Wards.
The camera is now up and running and Westerhope Councillor Linda Hobson, Chair of Safe Newcastle Board, went to the control room at the Civc Centre to see the camera in action. “The quality of the images is of a really high standard and the ability to rotate the camera and zoom in is an added bonus” said Councillor Hobson. “Residents should see a vast reduction in the amount of ASB in and around the Park due to the camera, we will be certainly keeping an eye on things and consulting with Police, Fire and Rescue and our fellow Councillors in Denton.
Councillor Brian Hunter commented “It is a real boon to have the cameras and a good use of ward funds for the benefit of local residents. We are showing those few who create a great deal of stress and anxiety for others that their behaviour will not be accepted or tolerated.”
