£90,000 investment announced for Parklands play facilities

Newcastle Labour is investing £90,000 to improve play facilities in Parklands through the £1.5 million programme approved by the council’s Labour-led Cabinet.

The funding forms part of Newcastle City Council’s £1.5 million programme to develop inclusive play spaces across the city. The selected site remains subject to technical checks during the detailed design stage.

Residents, children, parents, carers and community groups will be invited to help shape the proposals and identify the equipment and accessibility improvements that would make the greatest difference.

Good local play areas provide free places for children to exercise, build confidence and make friends while giving families a welcoming community space close to home.

This is part of Labour’s citywide commitment to address gaps in play provision and give children safe, free and accessible places to be active near their homes. The proposed site will undergo technical checks before detailed plans are confirmed.

Labour representatives will help families shape the scheme rather than simply presenting them with a finished design. Children, parents, carers and local organisations should determine which equipment and accessibility improvements will make the greatest difference.

Cllr Alex Hay, Labour Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services said:

“This £90,000 Labour investment is a real opportunity to improve local play facilities. The experiences and ideas of Parklands families should be at the centre of the plans.”
