£260,000 resurfacing planned for Regent Farm Road

Newcastle Labour is backing £260,000 of essential resurfacing on Regent Farm Road, a heavily used route serving residents, schools, the library, swimming pool and Regent Centre.

The overnight works are currently planned to take place between 19 January and 19 April 2026. The published information includes diversion arrangements, and residents should check the latest notices before travelling while the work is under way.

Regent Farm Road serves homes as well as Gosforth Library, the swimming pool, St Charles Primary School and the Regent Centre. It is therefore important that the work is carefully managed and that access for residents, pedestrians and people using local services is maintained wherever possible.

Local campaigners have also suggested using the resurfacing programme as an opportunity to consider longer-term safety, walking, cycling and green-space improvements. Newcastle Labour will listen to residents and press for clear information as the detailed arrangements are confirmed.

Maintaining Newcastle’s roads is a core public service, and Labour expects this investment to produce a safer, more reliable surface rather than another short-term repair. Because the work is planned overnight, the council must also minimise noise and disruption and provide clear advance information about access and diversions.

Labour will use the scheme to keep attention on the wider issues residents have raised, including pedestrian safety, cycling connections and the quality of nearby green space. Those longer-term improvements require proper assessment, but resurfacing should be the beginning of a wider conversation rather than the end of it.

A Newcastle Labour spokesperson said:

“Resurfacing Regent Farm Road is an important investment in a well-used local route. Residents need clear notice of overnight works and diversions, and we also want their views on any practical safety and accessibility improvements that could be considered alongside the scheme.”
