Jesmond Labour welcomes confirmation that Friends of Jesmond Library has secured £25,000 from the Labour Government to help maintain and restore the volunteer-run Grade II listed building.

The award is part of £400,000 distributed to 20 voluntary and community organisations across Newcastle through the Labour Government’s Pride in Place Impact Fund.

Jesmond Library is an important local asset, providing books, activities, meeting space and a familiar community venue. The funding will support work intended to keep the historic building in use and ensure it can continue serving residents in the years ahead.

A Jesmond Labour spokesperson said:

“This £25,000 award is welcome support for the volunteers who give their time to keep Jesmond Library open and active. The building is an important part of Jesmond’s heritage and community life, and we look forward to seeing the maintenance and restoration work take shape.”
