Newcastle City Council is working with the NHS and community organisations to support the successful rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations across the city.
The vaccination programme is expanding, offering hope that residents can be protected from serious illness and that restrictions can eventually be eased safely.
The NHS is leading the clinical delivery of vaccinations. The council is supporting that work by sharing reliable information, helping address barriers to access and responding to misinformation.
Residents will be contacted when they are eligible and should wait for an invitation rather than approaching vaccination services without an appointment.
Some people may have questions or concerns about the vaccine. Clear information from health professionals will be essential to maintaining public confidence.
Trusted voluntary organisations, faith groups and community leaders can help information reach residents who may not engage with conventional communication channels.
Labour councillors also have an important role. Through their ward relationships, they can share verified advice, identify practical obstacles and raise concerns affecting particular communities.
Access must be fair throughout the city. Residents should not be disadvantaged because of disability, language, digital exclusion, transport difficulties or uncertainty about the process.
Vaccination is one part of the response, and residents must continue following current public-health guidance after receiving it.
