Residents living around Stanhope Street are set to benefit from a new permit parking scheme designed to prevent commuters from occupying spaces throughout the day.
The scheme covers 15 streets in Arthur’s Hill and follows concerns from local people who regularly struggled to park close to their homes.
Parking by vehicles without a permit will be restricted between 9.30am and 11.30am and again between 3.30pm and 8.30pm, seven days a week. Residents and eligible visitors will still be able to park during these periods with the appropriate permits.
The changes were developed by Newcastle’s Labour-led council following consultation with residents.
Arthur’s Hill Labour councillor Joanne Kingsland said:
“Residents have been telling us how difficult it can be to park near their own homes because spaces are being taken by people travelling into the city.
“This scheme gives local residents a fairer opportunity to park while recognising that Arthur’s Hill remains a busy and well-connected part of Newcastle.
“We will continue listening to residents and monitoring how the arrangements work in practice.”
The scheme forms part of wider work to respond to parking pressures and improve residential streets across Arthur’s Hill.
