Lemington Remembers!
Lemington Remembers!
Today residents in Lemington and across Newcastle came together to pause and remember those who have given their lives in the service of our nation and those who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces.
This morning Councillor Barry Phillipson and Councillor Stephen Barry-Stanners attended the City War Memorial to join in the city’s main remembrance service led by the Bishop of Newcastle and attended by representatives of the Armed Forces.
Then this afternoon they joined other local residents in Lemington Cemetery for a service of remembrance at the war memorial; led by Father Neil Heslop from Holy Saviour, Sugley and supported by the Newburn Sea Cadets, whose base is within Lemington Ward. As part of the service, Barry lay a wreath at the memorial on behalf of the Lemington community.
As in previous years, following the service the Sea Cadets and residents were invited to attend the Lemington Labour Club where Stephen & Barry had used money from the ward budget to provide refreshments for the community.
