£90,000 secured to improve play facilities in Chapel

Newcastle Labour has secured £90,000 to improve play facilities in Chapel as part of the Labour-led council’s £1.5 million investment programme.

The local scheme will receive £90,000 as part of Newcastle City Council’s wider £1.5 million investment in inclusive play facilities.

The detailed proposals will be developed with the community. Children, parents, carers and local organisations will be encouraged to share their experiences and identify the improvements they most want to see.

A good local play area gives children a safe and welcoming place to be active, spend time outdoors and meet friends. It also provides an important community space for parents, carers and neighbours.

We want this investment to deliver lasting improvements for Chapel families. Newcastle Labour will support residents to take part in the consultation and help shape the final design.

Labour has prioritised communities where children need better free and accessible opportunities close to home. The Chapel allocation will support practical improvements while contributing to a wider programme designed to narrow gaps in play provision across Newcastle.

The next stage must be led by the families who use the space. Labour representatives will help children, parents, carers and local groups take part so that accessibility, safety and the choice of equipment reflect Chapel’s priorities.

Newcastle Labour Deputy Leader Cllr Alexander Hay said:

“Newcastle Labour is proud that Chapel will receive £90,000 for local play facilities. We want the improved space to reflect the priorities of the children and families who will use it.”
