Plans for the new houses
Plans for 42 new homes of various types have been given the go-head in Walker, Newcastle.
The mix of bungalows, houses, and quad houses (four houses back-to-back) will be built by Keepmoat on a site of just over 5.5 acres east of Pottery Bank and south of Burwood Road.
Planning committee granted permission for the scheme that will be built on a site that used to have housing which was demolished in 2007 but was earmarked for new housing.
Following the planning decision Labour councillor and Cabinet member for Housing, Cllr Paula Maines, said: “This is great news for Walker and the city as we seek to meet the chronic shortage of housing in our country.
“These will be lovely homes fitted with the latest facilities – heat pumps, solar panels, enhanced insulation, and EV charging points for cars.
“The homes will have private gardens, be well spaced out and have plenty of space inside. At least 18 of them will be for social rent so should go a long way to meet local housing need. The majority will also meet accessibility standards so people can live there for many years as they get older and their needs change.”
Six trees on site will need to be removed but replaced with 168. The homes will be a mix of for sale and rent, built of red brick and grey tiled roofs. The site will have rain gardens, enhanced biodiversity, more shrubs and two pocket parks.
