This morning Councillor Stephen Barry-Stanners and Councillor Barry Phillipson attended the Outer West Children and Young Person leaders network hosted at the Lemington Methodist Church, which brings together leaders from across youth organisations to share best practice, network, and to look at what young people want and need.
We know that youth provision in Lemington ward is a top priority for residents, and it’s one we share. In the last two years Stephen and Barry have secured around £200,000 in funding, this has supported the running of six free youth sessions each week which are a safe space for young people to come and socialise, learn about the world around them and take part in activities.
The funding has also supported a youth outreach programme, targeting those young people that a traditional youth group doesn’t appeal to. But we know there’s more to do…
In the coming weeks we will launch a Lemington ward youth survey, this will be the most comprehensive youth consultation for many years. It is absolutely crucial that we work with and hear from young voices themselves, so we really know what will work best for them.
If you have a young person at home, please encourage them to fill in the consultation when it launches – we will share the details on our page in the coming weeks.
