Labour’s councillors in Heaton ward have welcomed the news that Great British Energy will be funding solar panels for Chillingham Road Primary School in Newcastle.

The Labour government has announced details of the 250 schools set to benefit from Great British Energy’s expanded scheme, with Chillingham Road Primary School in line for clean power funding to cut energy bills.

The programme – which is the first major project for the Labour Government’s publicly-owned energy company – will mean less money wasted on energy bills and more resources going back into frontline services.

It’s estimated that the scheme could save schools thousands on their energy bills over their lifetime, showing the difference that clean power can make towards energy security for local communities.

Heaton Labour councillors have welcomed the Great news.

Commenting on the news Councillor Clare Penny-Evans said:

“Labour is backing Heaton. Today’s announcement means Chillingham Road Primary School will spend less on energy bills and have more for educating our children. That’s good news all round, and its sensible decisions like this that will get our country moving again.”

Councillor Lara Ellis added:

“Through Great British Energy, Labour is delivering energy security, investing in our public services and delivering lower bills for our communities.”

Councillor Mehrban Sadiq said:

“For 14 years under the Conservative and Liberal Democrat Governments, communities like Heaton were ignored. The Labour Government is changing that.”
