Labour MP for Newcastle North, Catherine McKinnell, has welcomed the Government’s announcement of funding to invest in three school buildings in Newcastle North.
Benton Dene Primary School and Gosforth Academy are both recipients of a new solar panel installation, which will save the schools significant sums on their energy bills.
These energy savings mean that both schools can reinvest back into improving outcomes for children and young people, all whilst boosting the UK’s energy security. This comes as a part of Great British Energy’s major scheme, Great British Energy Solar.
Additionally, Kenton School has been awarded funding from the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF), which aims to modernise schools across the country, by improving the standards and safety of the buildings, with projects such as new boilers, fire safety improvements, and electrical works funded at successful schools.
Catherine McKinnell MP said:
“I am delighted with the investment into Benton Dene, Gosforth Academy, and Kenton Schools – supporting children to learn in secure, warm and sustainable environments. It’s so important that we fix the foundations of our schools and make them the resilient and safe buildings that parents, teachers and students can learn in.”
“I want to see even more investment in facilities so that every child and young person – regardless of circumstance – has the chance to thrive in a fantastic school building.”
