Labour Member of Parliament for Newcastle North has welcomed the news that Great British Energy will be funding solar panels for Gosforth Academy in Newcastle.

The Labour government has announced details of the 250 schools set to benefit from Great British Energy’s expanded scheme, with Gosforth Academy in line for clean power funding to cut energy bills.

The programme – which is the first major project for the Labour Government’s publicly-owned energy company – will mean less money wasted on energy bills and more resources going back into frontline services.

It’s estimated that the scheme could save schools thousands on their energy bills over their lifetime, showing the difference that clean power can make towards energy security for local communities.

Commenting on the news Catherine McKinnell MP said:

“I am so pleased that Gosforth Academy – a fantastic local school – will receive funding for solar panels.

“This fantastic investment will benefit many children in Newcastle North, ensuring that money is spent on what really matters – a great education.

“I will be following developments very closely as we take steps towards a cleaner and greener Britain.”
