Cllr Stephen Barry-Stanners at Labour Party Conference 2025
Cllr Stephen Barry-Stanners at Labour Party Conference 2025
I’m currently heading back to Newcastle after five packed days at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool. I’ve been using the opportunity to speak with colleagues from across the country, charities, campaigners, and even a few government ministers about the priorities which residents across Lemington ward tell me about.
It was good to hear real proposals that could make a huge difference here in Lemington ward. These include:
✅ Creating a new NHS online trust to invest in digital services to make healthcare more accessible.
✅ Limits on how often landlords can raise rents and giving tenants more rights.
✅ Stronger police powers to tackle off-road motorbike crime and antisocial behaviour.
✅ Tougher action on fly-tipping, including longer prison sentences for repeat offenders.
✅ A national rollout of Youth Future Hubs, ensuring everyone gets the best start in life.
As your local councillor, I’ll always use every opportunity I can to raise your priorities, whether that’s at national conferences like this, at regional level, or in the council chamber. If there’s something affecting you, let me know. I’ll do everything I can to help.
When I pull into Newcastle I’ll be heading straight to the Civic Centre for tonight’s full council meeting where I’ll continue to push for what’s best for the residents of Lemington ward.
Stephen Barry-Stanners
