Hillsview Avenue in North Kenton is getting new safety and traffic calming measures following resident concerns overs speeding vehicles. The City Council plan to bring in:
- Traffic calming features such as 14 speed cushions and humps. These will encourage safer driving without restricting access
- Upgrade of road signage. Road signs will be reviewed reminding drivers that they are fully aware of speed limit and road layout
- Improved safety for residents and walkers. The work aims to create a safer environment, and to address long-standing concerns about vehicle speeds.
Consultation with local residents reveled strong support for these measures which are designed to improve road safety and reduce the risk of a serious collision.
Kenton Labour councillors Ged Bell, Stephen Lambert and Paula Maines this week welcomed the proposals which are being implemented this month. They said:
”There has been a history of speeding vehicles down Hillsview Ave and nearby streets. Anything that slows down the traffic is to be welcomed. Given that there are a lot of older residents and families in the area, this has to be seen as a positive development.”
